Alcester Civic Society – Welcome

Alcester Civic Society, founded in 1962, works to preserve and enhance all that is best in the buildings, amenities and traditions of the town and its environs whilst also promoting a sense of local pride.

Our Aims

  • Review and monitor local issues that arise
  • Actively welcome progress whilst at the same time endeavouring to ensure that this does not mean any loss of our rich heritage
  • To promote a vibrant high street and excellent amenities
  • To encourage the retention of heritage and history
  • To ensure a sustainable nature recovery

Objectives

Hold monthly committee meetings to review and monitor local issues that arise and especially those that are not aligned with our aims.

Put forward constructive points of view and influence whenever necessary all aspects of planning, heritage, and environmental issues.

Regularly review Planning Applications to Stratford District Council and, when necessary, express constructive comments back to the Council’s planning department.

Place a representative on the Neighbourhood Development Plan review group, and maintain close relationship with Alcester Town Council, and other voluntary groups with an interest in their aims.

Award plaques for building developments and refurbishments of architectural merit that benefit the town.

Present a quarterly series of topical talks and an annual visit, all open to both members and non-members.  Members receive the Society’s quarterly Newsletter.

19th May –The 1st Annual Pamela Norman Memorial Talk “From Bakehouse to Hairdressing Salon”.
A brief history of Church House by Richard Osborne who shares his considerable knowledge of Church House.

15th September – “Wildlife photography”. Nick Martin makes a welcome return with more wonderful wildlife photography.

17th November – “Spies” Wendy Mills will give a talk on this fascinating subject.
